Archaeology in Worcester

Find out more

If you'd like to discover more about archaeology in the city, Worcester City Council maintain the Historic Environment Record (HER), a digital database of more than 5,000 records (and counting!) of monuments, events and archaeological discoveries within the city. It is linked to the County HER, which contains over 50,000 records on finds and sites elsewhere in Worcestershire.

To find out more, get in touch on 01905 721133 or by email at archaeology@worcester.gov.uk. The City HER Officer is usually available every Tuesday from 1pm - 4pm in the Archaeology Office on Level 2 in The Hive, so  drop in and say hello! If you’ve got a specific query about a particular site or area, it’s worth contacting us before your visit so that we can prepare the material in advance.

Some of the data contained within the HER can be viewed online via English Heritage’s Heritage Gateway, at www.heritagegateway.org.uk.
